さてさて，やることいっぱいで特に進まない本の消化。そんな中，やっと「ソードアートオンライン２　アインクラッド」を読み終えたので，これについてレポートです。

前回で，ひとまずの終焉を迎えて，第２巻はどうするのかな～と思っていた本作品。今回は，第１巻の外伝風と言いましょうか，第１巻で描かれなかった部分を補完する４つのエピソードから成り立っています。
なるほど，最初にエンディングを見せておいて，それに至る過程を追記するとは…。続編小説としては，とても難易度の高い書き方ではないかと思います。後から綴られる物語が，ストーリー上では過去のものである以上，最初に自ら嵌めた枷を取り去ることはできない。何せ終わりはもう決まっており，それを大きく外れる要素を追加できないだけでなく，一層高まる読者の期待には応えなければならないのです。以降もこうした形で，巻を重ねていくのかな？


さて，中身に入りましょう。
各話にはそれぞれ異なるヒロインが据えられ，彼女たちと主人公キリト並びにメインヒロインであるアスナとの関わりが綴られる形。「女性の絶対数がそもそも少ないMMOにおいて，美少女は更に少ない」という設定の割に，ばんばん美少女が出てきますw　まぁいいじゃないですか，小説なんだから^^

最初の話は，「ビーストテイマー」というレアな属性を持つ少女シリカの物語。冒頭，いきなりビーストテイマーの胆とも言うべき使い魔を失うところから始まって，これを蘇生させるためにキリトと旅するお話です。
今作中のストーリーはどれもそうですが，キリトくん強すぎですねw　しかも，モテ過ぎww　いいですねぇ，嫌いじゃないですよ，他の追随を許さぬその圧倒的パワー。
今巻は，キリトに憧れる少女達の内面が綿密に描かれるばかりでなく，キリトやアスナの心情などについても語られ，色んな意味で１巻を補完する内容となっています。

２話目は，「鍛冶屋」リズベットが，キリトとともに武器の材料を取りに行くお話です。
キリトの持つ２本の剣，うち一本の誕生秘話。「ソードアートオンライン」という仮想世界における「人」の温もりと，また，リズベットをアスナの親友に据え，キリトへの思慕とアスナとの友情との境で揺れる想いとが丁寧に描かれていて，今作中最も気に入っているストーリーとなっています。

３話目は，謎の少女ユイの物語。今作中唯一の，アスナ視点のストーリーです。注目すべきは，アスナがこの世界に来る前の生活様式や，この世界に引きずり込まれて以降キリトに出会うまでの間，彼女が抱えていた狂気の感情について触れられており，ヒロイン「アスナ」を理解するうえで重要なストーリーと言えるでしょう。
また，「ソードアートオンライン」のメインシステムに関する記載も興味深く，何かと知識欲を満たしてくれたセクションでした。

最後は，「ソードアートオンライン」におけるキリト最大のトラウマとなった，「ギルド全滅事件」に纏わるお話。前作からキリトを苦しめ続けていた事件の終始が語られる，とても興味深いストーリーです。
また，なりふり構わず蘇生アイテムに挑むキリトの姿，その次に来る絶望，そして亡き人からのレクイエム。思わず目頭が熱くなる，ラストを飾るに相応しいとても素晴らしいお話でした。


作者，川原礫さんの次の刊行は，「アクセル・ワールド３」１０月１０日発売予定。
「ソードアートオンライン」３巻も，晩冬発売予定とのこと。

いずれの物語もどのような展開を見せるのか，今からとても楽しみです^^
