空ろの箱と零のマリア

いやぁ，久しぶりに小説を読み終えました～。
御影瑛路先生作，「空ろの箱と零のマリア」です。買ったきっかけは，本屋で表紙に惹かれて，だった気がします。そう考えると，表紙とか挿絵とかって決しておろそかにすべき物ではなく，「作品の一部」として重要視すべきものだと思います。御影瑛路先生が後書きでおっしゃるように，目に飛び込む印象とは大変に大きなものです。

さて，本書は現時点ですでに第２巻が発売されておりますが，私はまだ未読。その為というか，作品を通してのテーマはまだ把握できておりません。しかしながら，第１巻の主題は明らかに「時間ループもの」。永遠とも思われる回数，特定の一日を繰り返す中で，それでも少しずつ違う「３月２日」を描いた物語です。

さて，「時間ループもの」といってまず思い出すのが，涼宮ハルヒシリーズ「エンドレスエイト」ではないでしょうか。「エンドレスエイト」では，８月１７日から８月３１日の２週間を15,498回も繰り返すお話。劇中で古泉が「自分がそんなループに囚われていると自覚して，記憶がそのまま蓄積するのだとしたら，通常の人間の精神では持たないでしょう」と言っているように，「箱」の「犯人」は積み重ねられた27,755回の時間の中で，いろいろなものを失っている。その点，ちょっと退屈さが加わっただけで何らの影響を受けない長門さんは，さすがと言うべきでしょう（笑

私はこれを読んでいる途中，３度…いや，４度かな？　ストーリー中に巧妙に鏤められたギミックに騙されました。しかし，それは決して不快な物ではなく，怒濤のように展開していく時間ループの渦に飲み込まれ，後半「箱」の「犯人」の意思が明確になり始めるあたりから，続きが気になって一息に読み進めてしまったほどです。
是非ともこの感覚を味わって欲しいので，ストーリーの核心に触れる部分は控えます。
「エンドレスエイト」などに比べると若干猟奇的な描写があり，読み手を選ぶかも知れませんが，「時間ループ」の罠の特性を巧妙に操った，よく練られたとても優れた小説だと思います。

第１巻は，「箱」の所有者がそう望んだために「時間ループ」となりましたが，こういう設定だと２巻以降ははまた違った展開となりそうです。今度はどのようなトリックを仕掛けてくれるのか。すでに第２巻も入手済みですので，作者様の挑戦を受ける準備は出来ていますともw
